For teachers
Figure Fruit is a collection of short daily word, trivia, geography, history and number games. Every game takes about five minutes, so each one works well as a warm-up, an early-finisher activity or a station in a rotation.
The site is free to use in class. To keep it appropriate for students, we built Classroom Mode.
Start Classroom Mode
Add ?classroom=1 to the end of any Figure Fruit link, or use the link below. Share that link with your students through your learning management system, a QR code or a class page.
Classroom Mode stays on for as long as the browser tab is open. Each game’s page also works with the same ending, for example figurefruit.com/dumpit/?classroom=1. To turn it off, add ?classroom=0.
What Classroom Mode does
- No accounts. Students never sign in, enter an email address or choose a display name.
- No ads. No advertising code is loaded.
- No tracking and no data collection. Nothing about a student is sent to Figure Fruit or to any third party, apart from the standard requests for fonts, and in World Tour for map and flag images, described on the student privacy page.
- No leaderboards and no live matches. Students play on their own device and cannot contact or see other players.
- Adult content is filtered. Categories and words about alcohol, drugs, sexual content and graphic violence are removed from the games that use typed answers or curated facts. Some topics, such as medicine, history and war, are age-appropriate in an educational setting and remain available in a neutral, factual form.
Filtering is done with word lists and a hand-reviewed list of categories. No filter is perfect, and we cannot promise that every possible answer will be appropriate for every age. Please play a round yourself before using a game with students. If you find something that does not belong, tell us at team@figurefruit.com and we will remove it.
Where each game fits in a lesson
- Define-It, Affix-It, Dump-it and Letter by Letter build vocabulary, spelling and word-part knowledge.
- World Tour and Overflap support geography, science and general knowledge.
- The Lineup practices ordering events in time.
- Over / Under, Number Wall and Solve-It practice estimation and mental arithmetic.
- Double Agent and Split Second are quick logic and reaction games, well suited to a brain break.
Each game has a short “How to play” page that you can show on a projector.
Common questions
Does it cost anything?
No. Figure Fruit is free for teachers and students. Outside Classroom Mode, the site may show ads.
Do students need a Google account or an email address?
No. Students only need a web browser. Chromebooks, tablets and laptops all work.
Will my school’s web filter block it?
Most filters allow it, because the site is a plain educational site. If yours does not, ask your technology coordinator to allow figurefruit.com. If you need to confirm which services the site contacts, the student privacy page lists them.
Is Figure Fruit compliant with COPPA, FERPA and state student privacy laws?
In Classroom Mode, Figure Fruit does not collect personal information from students, so there is no student data to protect, share or sell. The student privacy page explains this in detail, and your school or district can review it as part of its own approval process. Each district has its own process for approving digital tools. If yours requires a signed agreement or a vendor questionnaire, email us and we will complete it.
What about students who play at home?
Accounts and leaderboards on the regular site are for people aged 13 and older. Students under 13 should use Classroom Mode, or play without an account.
