How to play Letter by Letter
Letter by Letter is an A to Z category game. You get one category, like “Dinosaurs” or “Herbs and spices”, and a tower with one floor for every letter. Name something in the category that starts with each floor’s letter to ride the elevator up before the doors close.
Solo
- Press Start. The category is revealed when the 2-minute clock begins.
- The car sits on one floor at a time, starting at A. Type an answer that fits the category and starts with that letter, then press Enter.
- Small spelling mistakes are fixed for you. If a misspelling could mean two answers, you will be asked to try again. A wrong answer costs nothing but time.
- Stuck? Press Skip floor. That letter goes to the back of the line and you come back to it later.
- Letters that nothing in the category starts with are left out, so every floor in your tower can be solved.
Scoring
- Each floor is worth 10 points, or 20 if your answer is a rare one (marked with a ★).
- Express: clear floors in a row without skipping to multiply your points. x1.5 at 4 in a row, x2 at 8, x2.5 at 12. Skipping a floor resets it.
- Top of the tower: clear every floor and you get a 50 point bonus plus 1 point for every second left.
- An answer can only be used once, even if it fits more than one letter.
Ways to play
- Today’s Daily: one category for everyone, one ride per day. It counts for the leaderboard and your monthly rank.
- Casual: pick any category, as often as you like. It never counts for the leaderboard.
- Head to head: tap Find a match for a random opponent, or make a room and share the 4-letter code. A coin flip decides who starts, then you trade letters: A for one player, B for the other, and so on.
Head to head rules
- On your turn you have 10 seconds to name something that fits the current letter. Get it and you claim the floor.
- Run out of time and the floor is lost for both of you. That is a strike. 3 strikes and you are out.
- When the last floor is done, whoever claimed more floors wins. Equal floors is a dead heat.
- Head to head matches are friendly games. They do not count for the daily leaderboard.

Tips
- Clear the easy floors first and use Skip on the hard ones so Express doesn’t stall for long.
- Think of the category’s biggest names for the tough letters. Rare answers are worth double.
- In a match, a quick safe answer beats a clever slow one.
