How to play The Lineup
The Lineup is a daily timeline puzzle. You are shown five events, in a scrambled order, from one category (movies, music, sports, tech and so on). Put them in order from earliest at the top to latest at the bottom. You are told how many you got right, and then you get just two swaps to fix the rest.
How a day works
- Every day has a category, shown on the dark calendar header at the top. Sundays are the Mixed Bag, with events from everywhere. Everyone gets the same five events that day.
- Rearrange the tiles. Tap one tile, then tap another to swap them. You can also use the little up and down arrows. Moving things around is free until you check.
- Press Check lineup. The game tells you how many of the five are in the right spot, but not which ones.
- Now you have two swaps. Tap two tiles to swap them and the lineup is checked again straight away.
- When you solve it, or run out of swaps, the real years are revealed.
Scoring
- You score 100 points for every event in the right spot at the end.
- If you get all five right, you also get a bonus for how quickly you did it: +500 on your first look, +300 on your second look, +150 on your third.
- So a perfect first look is 1,000, and solving it with your last swap is 650.
- Because a swap moves two events at once, the feedback can only ever be 0, 1, 2, 3 or 5. It is impossible to have exactly four right.
Difficulty
The events get closer together in time as the week goes on. On Monday the five events are usually a decade or more apart. By Saturday they can be only a few years apart. Every event in a lineup has a different year, so there are never ties.
Spotted a mistake?
On the results screen, tap the flag next to any event to report it. We check every report and switch off events with a wrong date.
Leaderboard and accounts
You can play without an account, and your score still counts toward the daily percentile. To appear on the leaderboards, sign in or create a free Figure Fruit account. The same account works in every Figure Fruit game, and your results also count toward the weekly leaderboard. The daily puzzle changes at midnight US Eastern time.
Tips
- Start by placing the events you are most sure about at the very top and bottom.
- Your first look is the most valuable. Use your free moves to get the order as right as you can before pressing check.
- After the first look, think about which tiles could be wrong before spending a swap. A swap that makes the count go down still tells you something.
